Ladybug Math

I got this activity from Welcome to Making Learning Fun. I copied, cut and laminated for durability. I also put Velcro on the dots so the puff ball would stay out!

Reno loved this activity so much. She is really getting the hand of one-to-one ratio.

During our Bug unit we took a trip to the Butterfly Pavilion. It was the perfect spot to learn about these bugs in real life... Alice and I even help a Tarantula!!! She only did it because she got a sticker!

She had the best time finding all the butterflies in the garden,

Playing in the activity room in the beehive and on the spider web!

What s fun day!

April Shower brings...

ladybugs, butterflies, and flowers and MORE at Reno's Way! We will be studying, playing, and creating so check back for updates!

I got most of my ideas for here. I cut, laminated, and then we played! Check in soon for pictures!

We will be reading

The Very Hungry Caterpillar~ Eric Carle
The Grouchy Ladybug~ Eric Carle
The Tiny Seed~ Eric Carle
Seeds! Seeds! Seeds!by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace
From Caterpillar to Butterfly by Deborah Heligiman
Percival the Plain Little Caterpillar by Helen Brawley

and possibly more!

The Cross

Reno loves church, the bible, Jesus, God...you name it...if it has to do with the Lord she is hooked. For our Easter Day Project we read The Story of Easter. It is simple and beautiful book for young child that explains the real meaning of Easter in terms a little one can understand. Of course Reno loved it and "read" it daily. I picked up crosses for the girls to paint as a follow on project. It was so quiet while they painted. Then Reno started retelling the story of Easter. So sweet!

I can spell A-L-I-C-E

While I was preparing for this months theme, I gave Alice letter stickers I picked up from Big Lots for $1 a sheet. I asked her to find the letters that spell her name. She started from the bottom and went up. She improved each time! Sorry for the blurry picture... need new camera..now!

I love to cut!

Reno has been very busy cutting... straight lines that is! But we took a risk and cut out the Rabbit from her Kumon book. She did get frustrated for a second when she almost cut the ears off...poor rabbit... but I helped her get back on track and she finished the rest! PROUD mama here!

Egg Hunter

This is the first year Reno understands how to "hunt" eggs! Who wouldn't when they are loaded with candy! With some help from Kgirl, her Uncle and her cousin her hunt was a success!

Pattern FUN!

Reno has been doing basic patterns for aa couple of months now. We started with the Discovery Toys Bug Pattern Activity. Since it was Easter and her big sister is off from school, I decided to make it a little more fun. We used the Springtime Marshmallows and flower baking pan to "fun" it up some! Reno and Kgirl LOVED this!

R is for....?

You guessed R is for Rabbit!!!

Fire Fighter Reno

We had such a great time wrapping up our community helpers theme. We borrowed this FF costume from a friend and Reno got to SAVE the day! We talked about when and how to dial 911 and practiced on her play phone. She was so brave fighting the fires! She totally saved the day!

Using different shapes we created and fire engine. She was proud of her ladder 0 as she named it!

2 for1

This is a 2 for 1 post! Last week was so CRAZY for us we did tot school but I had no time for posting. (sorry in advance for the length!) So here we go:

Community Helpers Theme

Doctors are Community Helpers

Reno loved her X-Ray project and showed me X with her fingers

Firefighters are next on our list... we will be doing more next week on them... but this was a fun Math lesson with Dalmations ~ the fire dog!

After we read our book and I was setting up for our next activity, Reno was pretending "her dolly had fallen and got caught in a fire. The firemen are coming hold on...she is okay..thank you fireman..." too precious!

St Patty's Day
Reno cut green paint samples

Reno loved categorizing the Lucky Charms in her rainbow. When the prject was finished she enjoyed them as a snack!

Pipo and Reno
Reno LOVES her Busy Bugs from Discovery Toys. Pipo is color blind so Reno lead the way! Love the High 5 for a great effort!

Reno is very into trying to write her name. She really trys her best. We are still working of proper hold of the pencil. But she'll get there.

We have been doing the bottle cap name activity for awhile but Reno was putting the letter of her name on in any order. Now we are working on puttin ghtem on in the correct order.

Beginning Sequencing
Reno wasn't really into this activity until I brought out her favorite numbers. This sequencing packet came with about 10 cards and I took out 3 to start with. That seemed less overwhelming for both of us.

H for House~ http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/

J for Juice and Jewel

Moon Sand~ Although this was a big clean up job, both girls LOVED the moon sand. Thanks Aunt Teresa!

Numbers and Letter Q

We had a fun week at Reno's Way. Reno is really interested in number. She loves counting. She can almost make it to 20 with all the numbers in order. Reno LOVED this number puzzle I pulled out for her. I thought we'd just put the numbers back in the puzzle but she had other plans... she wanted to line them up like a number line. Then she put them back in the puzzle counting down from 20. I am glad she lead this activity!

I have seen so many of my tot school friends do the paint chip cutting. So while I was in the hardware store I picked some up. Reno loves to cut now and is getting better every time we she cuts. She really enjoyed this and the only thing that got her to stop cutting was the number puzzle :).

We have also been doing Starfall. I have used this web site a lot for Reno's older sister but Reno and I just started using it a couple of months ago. It is fast becoming a favorite.

Letter Q was so fun to do! Reno painted this week instead of coloring. That was a fit! Every inch of Q was covered! She also really liked bedazzling her Q and the crown! Thank you to http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/

Finally we did a following direction and spatial activity. Reno would listen to me say "in the cloud" and she would stamp in the cloud. Or I say "out of the cloud" and she would stamp out of the cloud. It was a good activity, BUT I really liked the post from a tot schooler who used an barn and horse to do the same activity. I am so doing that this week.. I think Reno will like it much better!
